In 2016-2018, I was a student at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management working on my MBA. After one year and three quarters of taking two classes every quarter, I was finally going to be done with my last quarter in the winter of 2018. Every winter, Kellogg has different “GIM” classes (Global Initiatives in Management) where students take their normal classes throughout the quarter but then the quarter ends with everyone in the class going to visit different countries for two weeks to really try and immerse themselves in the environment (and have some fun!). I decided I would take one of these classes as my last hooray before finishing at Kellogg.

There were five different options available but I chose the Cambodia & Vietnam trip because I had never been to Asia before and I thought this would be a good opportunity to visit a country (Cambodia) I likely wouldn’t pick as one of my top options to visit on my own. At a high level, we spent three days in Phnom Penh (Cambodia), two days in Siem Reap (Cambodia), two days in Hanoi (Vietnam), and two days in Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon (Vietnam). The two weeks spent traveling flew by. As I’ve told others, I wouldn’t say this trip was “really fun” like a snowboarding trip, but I learned a ton about Cambodia and Vietnam and had an amazing experience. Looking back, I can’t think of a better way I would rather have capped off my Kellogg experience than with this trip.
