Day 5 – Kauai

We woke up around 4:30 in the morning on Wednesday so that we could make our 6:30am flight to Kauai on time. When we landed, we went for a big breakfast and then headed to our water tubing excursion. Essentially, the story behind this is that years ago this was a sugar plantation where they built a massive water irrigation system. Now, the sugar plantation is closed down but the land is privately owned and is used as a water tubing excursion site through the irrigation system! It might sound weird, but it was a lot of fun! We went through 5 different pitch black tunnels where we had to use our headlamps to see anything, and there were a couple of little water falls that gave us a lot of speed in some places.

After our water tubing adventure, we went to the other side of the island and hiked through different trails of the Waimea Canyon, i.e. the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. We got lost for a little while but eventually found our way out. The rain held off as well which was really nice because then at the end we got to see a beautiful rainbow over the canyon.

Afterwards, we drove to our hotel, had dinner there, and went to bed after an absolutely full day of activities.
