Day 3 – Vik to Hofn

On Day 3 Grainne and I had a pretty easy day. We were originally going to do the Reynishverfi Basalt Column Beach on Day 3 but we ended up just going to it on Day 2 as it was on our way to Vik’s town area. For Day 3 that meant we only had the Skaftafell National Park and the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon while on our way to Hofn. Ending our day at Hofn would mean that in three days we had gotten from the southwestern part of Iceland all the way to the southeastern side (that’s 350 miles and that’s if you drive straight through. That doesn’t even include the additional miles for the Golden Circle!).

Below is a picture of Grainne and I at the main waterfall in Skaftafell National Park. Notice the return of more basalt columns!

Additional pictures from Skaftafell National Park:

After Skaftafell National Park we kept driving to Hofn. On the way we stopped for a few pictures at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. There’s hardly any photoshop in these pictures. It’s really that blue!

Once we got to Hofn Grainne and I split a pepperoni pizza and a bag of fries and headed to our hotel for the night. Click here for day 4 of our trip where we do nothing but drive back to Vik. Just kidding! Day 4 was our favorite day.
