Day 2 was my favorite day. We started by getting up early and heading over to the port to take our boat to Alcatraz. This was my second time to Alcatraz and it was just as interesting the second time through. I highly recommend it for anyone thinking of going! On our way to Alcatraz we stopped at San Francisco’s crookedest street, also known as Lombard Street. A San Francisco classic!

On our way to Alcatraz I was able to get some nice pictures of the city:
Below is a picture of Alcatraz, a.k.a. The Rock, from our boat.

Below are all of my pictures of Alcatraz. There’s a lot of pictures but that’s because there’s a lot to see! During the tour you walk around with a headset that is really great to listen to. It’s narrated, I believe if I remember correctly by an ex-prison guard, but there’s also audio from ex-prisoners. It also tells the story of the Battle for Alcatraz and the Escape from Alcatraz.
After Alcatraz we had lunch at a quick sandwich shop along Fisherman’s Wharf and then headed to Muir Woods. The trees were really big and really tall! Me, Grainne, Mama Bauer, and Maureen walked around for a little bit and then Grainne and I split off for our own hike up a hillside pass. I worked up a pretty good sweat along the way. It was a fun and beautiful way to end our day.

After another very busy day we had a nice dinner along the ocean in Sausalito and headed back to Maureen’s for the night. Click here for Day 3, our final day in San Francisco.
