Day 4 – Marion Lake to Phelps Lake

Day 4 was a rough day for me. In the morning we were walking along a ridge going up but through bushes that were up to our waist and also happened to be wet. It would have been worse if it was raining, but it wasn’t fun having everything get wet from the bushes either. We actually traveled along the part of the path that I had originally colored-in but then crossed out:

Below is a picture of Grainne on the ridge. We basically kept walking on the left-side of the picture and kept climbing to get over the top.

Next is a picture from us on the other side after we started going down. These are the only couple of pictures of this up/down that I have because there weren’t great views to take pictures of. In addition, on the way down I got pretty dehydrated and just became concerned/focused on getting down to get to the stream. For most of the way down we could hear the stream but couldn’t see it which really messed with my head.

Below is a picture of us when we finally found the stream. Hallelujah!

After a 14 mile day the previous day, the hike to Phelps Lake turned out to be pretty easy (once I got past the dehydration part). The amazing view at Phelps Lake made it all worth it, including the big picture below which Grainne and I decided was good enough to print and put in our living room!

Crystal clear water like I’d never seen before

Once we settled into our campsite along Phelps Lake we went for a quick swim in it! The water was cold at first but once the body warmed up it became a great way to freshen up after four days of hiking. We went to bed early that night which ended up being a good thing because on Day 5 we decided to get crazy! Click here for Day 5 of our trip which ended up being our last real day of camping.
