Chihuly Glass Museum

The Chihuly Glass Museum is located next to the Space Needle. The museum has what must be hundreds of glass works of art created by Dale Chihuly, a Washington native. To give some background, his works are shown in over 200 museums across the world. In addition, he has twelve honorary doctorates from the National Endowment for the Arts and in 1999 he had an exhibition that over 1 million people came to see.

The museum was my favorite part of the trip (other than the snowboarding) and it’s broken out into eight (I think it’s eight) different sections, the final section being a huge outdoor garden where all of the plants are glass. Below is a picture from the second section, the Sealife Room:

Everything you see are individual strands of glass

Below are pictures from the Northwest Room, the Sealife Room, and the Persian Ceiling:

The fourth room was the Mille Fiori. To give some context, this piece must have been almost three car lengths long:

Below are additional pictures of the Mille Fiori and pictures from the Ikebana and Float Boats:

The next section was the room of chandeliers. Some of these were taller than I am.

Below are additional Chandelier pictures, some from inside and some from outside:

The final fully indoor room exhibit was the Macchia Forest exhibit:

After the Macchia Forest the next section was the Glasshouse. If things seemed big before they were about to get 10x the size. The Glasshouse Sculpture was beautiful and incredibly long (100 feet). Below is a picture of Jack and Mary standing in front of the Glasshouse Sculpture:

After the Glasshouse we walked out into the Gardens. This was essentially a small park that had been created with a path to walk along and as you walked you’d run into different sculptures along the way. Some of these were massive:

This must have been around 20ft tall

To try and give context to size, the garden was probably 5-10x the size of what you see below:

Below are additional pictures from the Glasshouse and the Garden:

After the Garden we walked into the gift shop for the end of the tour. The Chihuly Glass Museum was a great experience and I’d recommend it to anyone that visits Seattle. One last picture to end the tour, in case anyone feels like buying me a present. This small piece is only $12,500!
